Patricia Denise McGraner “Jammie” Barrington, 56, of Athens, Ohio, passed away Sunday December 11, 2011 at Ohio State University Hospital.
Patsy was born June 11, 1955, at Sheltering Arms Hospital in Athens. Her parents are Dana Ruth Robinson McGraner and the late Richard Leroy McGraner.
Patsy was a 1973 graduate of Athens High School and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Ohio University. She was a kindergarten teacher and guidance counselor in Athens City Schools for twenty-four years, most notably as kindergarten teacher at West Elementary in the very room where she attended kindergarten.
She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority; her two beloved book clubs, the EPT Book Club and Chauncey Book Club; and the BURP Squad. She enjoyed cooking, reading, walking, golfing, being with her many beloved friends and family, and gardening in the mystical, magical secret garden.
Besides her sweet spirit and loving ways, her legacy includes both her belief in and teaching of Responsive Classroom teaching methodology and her impact on countless children, colleagues, and friends.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband of thirty-three years, John Barrington; her beloved daughters Ashley Kathryn (Chris Ludlow) and Alison McGraner; her grandsons and buddies John “Jack” Ludlow and Conor Barrington; her sisters Teresa (Paul) Scarmack and Kelee (John) Tritipo; her mother-in-law Mary Barrington and sisters-in-law Christine Kelly, Susan Barrington, and Julie (Joe) Leiby; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Besides her father, Patsy was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Jack Barrington.
Patsy’s body will be cremated, and no funeral service will be held.
A Celebration of the Life of Patsy Barrington will be held on May 19, 2012. Please join us anytime between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the Dairy Barn. Feel welcome to attend for a few minutes or a few hours.
