Francisco J.T. “Frank” Leon Guerrero, age 71 of Athens died April 10, 2012 at his home.
Born Aug. 26, 1940 in the U.S. Territory of Guam, he was the son of the late Segundo & Marie Torres Leon Guerrero. He was a resident of Athens since 2005.
He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Air Force after 23 years of service (1963-1986). He served as a liaison from the Air Force supporting the Gemini and Apollo Space Missions.
He was a graduate of the University of Southern California with a degree in mathematics. After his service in the Air Force, he was employed with Burroughs, Unisys and Wyeth as a system analyst.
His hobbies included: hang gliding, snow skiing, ATV riding, traveling, walking at the Community Center, reading and spending time with his family.
Frank is survived by two daughters- Tina (Herbert) Taggart of Lavant, Maine and Specialist Erin Murphy, U.S. Army, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland; four sons- Timothy (Amy) Leon Guerrero of Douglassville, Pa., Ted (Virginia) Leon Guerrero of Garnet Valley, Pa., Andrew (Ricki) Murphy of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and Brian (Elizabeth) Murphy of Aurora, Colorado; ten grandchildren- Tristan Taggart, Rachel Taggart, Nathan Leon Guerrero, Eli Leon Guerrero, Marcus Leon Guerrero, Anthony Leon Guerrero, Victoria Smith, A.J. Murphy, Morgan Murphy and Ryan Francisco Murphy; a sister, Cecilia Shepard; two brothers- Carl & Segundo Leon Guerrero; several nieces and nephews; and the family of Betty & the late Andy Ransom of Athens.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Ransom Leon Guerrero and a sister, Margaret Torres.
A memorial service will be held July 14, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens. Friends may call 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Cremation has taken place.
