Elizabeth E. "Betty" Blackford, 94, of Newark formerly of The Plains died Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at her home.  Born September 14, 1931 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late George Gerald Blackford and Nellie E. Jones Blackford.

A 1949 graduate of Chauncey Dover High School, she retired after 30 years of service with GTE in the human resources department.  She was a former resident of Marion.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Athens.  She enjoyed flower gardening, needle point and cross stitching.

Betty is survived by a sister, Lois (Jim) Bartlett of Concord, NC; and several nieces, nephews; several great nieces and great nephews; several great, great nieces and  great, great nephews; and several great, great, great nieces and great, great, great nephews..

She is preceded in death by three sisters, Ellen "Peggy" Adelman, Jeannette Carter and Carolyn Blackford; and two brothers, Lloyd Blackford and Jerry Blackford.  No services are planned and her ashes will be in interred in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville.  Arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.  Please share a memory, a note of condolence or sign the online register at www.jagersfuneralhome.com.
