Carole Therese Carpenter, age 89, of Columbus, formerly of Athens died early Wednesday morning, May 16, 2018 at Arlington Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Columbus. Born May 12, 1929 in Newark, she was the daughter of the late John A. & Mary J. Ganey Donaldson.
A graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, Newark, she assisted in the family operation of Carpenter Hardware Store on Court Street for many years. She was also employed in the Medical Records Department at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital and the O.U. Osteopathic Medical College. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Catholic Ladies Club, Catholic Ladies of Columbia, and American Contract Bridge League. She served for many years on the Board of United Appeal of Athens County.
Carole is survived by a daughter, Deborah Scott Robbins of Edgewater, Maryland; three sons, David (Kandi) Carpenter of Marysville, John (Denise) Carpenter of Port Orange, Florida, and Douglas Carpenter of Columbus; ten grandchildren- Ian, Monica & Venessa Scott, Max Robbins, Aaron & Matthew Carpenter, Adam & Kate Carpenter and Emily & Evelyn Carpenter; a sister in law, Mary Carol Donaldson; a sister in law, Helga (Steve) Carpenter Heeter; a cousin in law, Chester (Jane) Swett; nieces and nephews, Michael & Jeffrey (Jennifer) Donaldson, Bill (Jane) Carpenter, Linda (David) Carpenter Inman, Lisa (Gerhard) Hillmann and Leslie (Steven) Lynn.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her former husband, Al Carpenter; two brothers, John & Joseph Donaldson; and a brother in law, Sam Carpenter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 23rd 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 38 N. College St. Athens with Msgr. Patrick Gaughan as Celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens. Vigil for the Deceased will be conducted Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
