Charles “Chuck” Richard Woodall, 84, of Athens passed peacefully on October 3, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family. Born September 14, 1942, in Nitro, WV, he was the son of the late Jess and Mildred Pauline Martin Woodall.
He graduated from Dunbar West High School, and immediately following graduation enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving four years, with one year in Korea. He later attended West Virginia State College.
Chuck was employed at Columbia Gas in Charleston, WV. He was promoted to Columbus, Ohio with three other employees to write procedures and install computerized accounting system for all of Columbia Gas. This is where he met his wife, Judy. He moved to Athens where he joined his wife in the business of Judy’s of Athens. They owned and operated Judy’s of Athens for twenty six years. They also owned Judy’s of Marietta and Fremans of Beverly. Chuck operated Friendly Paw’s Pet Supply. He then went to work for his good friend, Gil Elmore who owned All Power Equipment in Athens and Lancaster. He retired from All Power at the age of 82.
He attended Richland Global Methodist Church in Athens. He was an avid sports lover and exerciser. He was a jogger (ran several half marathons), rock climbing and bicyclist, along with his everyday routines.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judy Bronson Woodall; his brothers, Sam Woodall and Larry Woodall both of Dunbar, WV, and Jim (Carol) Woodall of Mooreville, NC; several nieces and nephews including Carol (Jason) Lindsey and Dr. J.R. (Katherine) Woodall; several great nieces and great nephews; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Douglas of Athens.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his father-in-law and his mother-in-law, Clyde & Doris Bronson.
At his request, there will be no funeral or visitation. He was buried at Clark’s Chapel Cemetery, Athens in a private family service with Rev. Peter Han officiating.
