Cynthia Lee Barragan, 65, of Athens passed away early Wednesday morning, Nov. 29, 2023 at her home.  Born Feb. 1, 1958 in Pittsburgh, PA, she is the daughter of George Pappas of Bradenton, FL and the late Martha Murray Hynus.

A graduate of Amos Alonzo Stagg High School in Chicago, she also graduated from Hocking College and Ohio University, where she received a degree in nursing and police science.  She volunteered as a Special Deputy for the Athens County Sheriff.  As a skillful cook was head chef at Sergio's Supreme Court on Court St. in Athens in the 90's. A talented artist, she also enjoyed arts and crafts, gardening, and interior designing. Her larger than life personality and sense of humor carries on through her loved ones.

In addition to her father, Cynthia is survived by her dedicated partner of 29 years, Roger Barrows; three marvelous children, Sergio (Kimberly) Barragan of Athens, Marisa Barragan of Columbus, and Melissa Barragan of Athens, who loved her dearly. Five beautiful grandchildren, Maria, Alexis, Sergio III, Weston and Estella Barragan; two sisters, Rebecca Pappas of Florida, Shanna Hynus of Ohio; two brothers, George Pappas of Tenn. and Shane Hynus of Ohio.

She is preceded in death by her mother and a sister, Sherry Spohn.

Friends, family and others are invited to a memorial service on Dec 9th 1pm-3pm at Common House Church, 8960 United Lane in Athens.
