Danny Lee Brookhart, 86, of Athens, died Wednesday October 7, 2026 at the Carlin House Assisted Living in Logan. Born May 13, 1940 in Sugar Creek, he was the son of the late John L. Brookhart and Faye Davis Brookhart Sprague.
A graduate of Chauncey-Dover High School, he was employed as a welder and heavy equipment mechanic with Sands Hill Mining Company and Shelley & Sands Construction. He attended Poston United Methodist Church. While mostly working, he enjoyed fishing and boating in his spare time. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Era.
Danny is survived by a daughter, Joan (David) Braatz; a son, Danny Lee Brookhart II; three grandchildren; a sister and brother in law, Vivian and Phil Ridenour of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.
Beside his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Norvella South Brookhart; four sisters, Dorothy Hunter, Theda Ritchie, Florence Sprague and Hallie Vore; three brothers . John Brookhart, Carl Brookhart and Thelbert “Sox” Brookhart.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Rev. Phil Ridenour officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery, Hebbardsville. Friends may call Saturday 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Military Rites will be conducted at the funeral home by the Honor Guards of K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion and VFW Post 9893. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Carlin House Assisted Living, 12 Carlin Dr., Logan, OH 43138 or OhioHealth Home Care and Hospice, 444 W. Union St., Athens, OH 45701.
