Debra Carrie Murphy, 71, of Athens passed away, Monday October 12, 2026 at Arbors of Pomeroy. Born November 29, 1954 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Osborne Rufus Fulks and Avilla Bressler Fulks.

A 1974 graduate of Athens High School, she attended Hocking College. She was a family caregiver and nurse’s aide, working at Kimes Nursing Home in Athens. She was a lifelong area resident.

Debra is survived by her husband, Calvin Wesley “John” Murphy; a son, Shannon Murphy of Athens; an former daughter in law, Leanna Davis; three grandchildren, Connor, Bethany and Dylan; a lifelong and best friend, Wendy Graber of Athens; several nieces and nephews; and several brothers in law and sisters in law.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by three sisters, Shelva Jean Fulks, Sandra Markin and Brenda Johnson; and three brothers, Gary Fulks, Timothy Fulks and Terry Fulks.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday, October 16, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Rev. Phil Foster officiating. Friends may call Friday 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the service.
