Dorothy
Meyer
Oct 25, 1937 — Feb 10, 2025
Athens
Dorothy "Dot" Carolyn Meyer, 87, of Reynoldsburg, formerly of Athens, died Monday afternoon, February 10, 2025 at Mt. Carmel Hospital East, Columbus. Dot was an avid quilter, traveler, and later-in-life painter. She spent many summer days vacationing in Lakeside, OH (her happy place) with Lynne Woods, a dear friend and also a former Athens resident.
A longtime resident of Athens, her son Doug, and daughter, Kristi are/were both graduates of Morrison Elementary, Athens Middle and High Schools. She regularly "adopted" students and fostered faith and friendship with everyone. Dot was an active member of many organizations, including Christ Lutheran Church, AAL, AFAN, and PEO and was always willing to roll up her sleeves to help others. The list of projects she shepherded is too long for this notice, but aren't forgotten.
She was born October 25, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of the late Gustav Rufus Holm and Eleanor Paulson Holm.
A graduate of Foreman High School (1955), Wright Junior College (1957) Chicago Teachers College (1959) she taught elementary grades in both Chicago, IL and Elyria, OH. During her time in Athens, she acquired a green thumb working at Flowers by Linea and other florists. After moving to Reynoldsburg, she lived in the Wesley Ridge Retirement Community where she was active on the Welcome Committee and brought smiles to residents old and new. Dot believed that every person mattered, and she went out of her way to help newcomers socialize and establish friendships.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter and son in law, Kristi and Paul Walker of Phoenix, Arizona; and two grandchildren, Ellie Meyer and Nathan Meyer.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Douglas Meyer and her son, Douglas Cord Meyer.
