Elsa J. Heffelfinger, age 98, of Pickerington formerly of Athens died, Monday Aug. 20, 2018 at Mt. Carmel Hospital, East, Columbus. Born Jan. 10, 1920 in Havana, Cuba, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Viggo & Hilda Ingeborg Thulin Javert.

She was a graduate of East High School in Columbus, and a 1942 graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree in education, majoring in languages.  She taught Spanish at Athens High School for 25 years.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Athens, Pi Beta Phi, CCL, University Women's Club, Social Literary Club and Athens Friends and Neighbors.  She enjoyed travel, playing Bridge, sewing, cross stitching, and fishing at her family cabin on Lake Kabenung in Ontario, Canada.  She was also a fan of Ohio University football, where her late husband was an assistant coach, and Ohio State University football.

Elsa is survived by two daughters, Karen (Dan) Olson of Newburgh, NY and Jan Heffelfinger of Reynoldsburg; a son, Ret. Lt. Col. Jim Heffelfinger, U.S. Army, of Seffner, Fla.; two granddaughters, Sarah (Dan) Flanigan of Lansdowne, Pa. and Kirsten (Mark) Lyon of Modena, NY; and two great grandchildren, McKenna Flanigan and Ethan Lyon.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford C. Heffelfinger in 1998; and a sister, Greta Sullivan.
