Floyd Emerson Oxley, age 87, of Athens died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018 at his home. Born Nov. 14, 1931 in Athens he was the son of the late Russell Orlie Oxley and Lulu Marie Parker Oxley.
A graduate of Shade High School, he was employed as a stationary engineer at the Ohio University Heating Plant for 35 years. He was also formerly employed at the steel mills in Cleveland. He attended the Bates United Methodist Church and Shade United Methodist Church, He was a U.s. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary J. Sickels Oxley; two daughters, Sandy (Scott) Vanvranken and Sara (Eric) Harris both of Racine; two sons, Jeffrey Oxley and Mike Oxley both of Athens; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister Eleanor (Richard) Colgan of Michigan; and a brother, Merrill (Ethelda) Oxley of North Carolina.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Oxley and June Ellis; and three brothers, Francis, Paul and Willard Oxley.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Georganne Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Bates Cemetery, Alexander Township. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Military Rites will be conducted by K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion and VFW Post 9893 Honor Guards at the cemetery.
