George L.
Weisenbach
Apr 22, 1937 — Aug 7, 2018
Athens
George L. Weisenbach, 81, of Athens, went to be with the Lord on August 7, 2018 at the Arbors of Pomeroy from complications related to Alzheimer's disease. Born April 22, 1937 in Athens, he was the son of the late George V. and Mary F. Weisenbach. After graduating from Athens High School in 1955, George attended Ohio University and then joined and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. The love of his life, Marilyn Sue Lands, became his wife in 1960 and they shared almost 50 years of wedded happiness until her death July 26, 2008.
George worked many years as an insurance salesman for Western-Southern Insurance Company and then retired from the City of Athens in 1987. Well, sort of retired… the second love of George's life was GOLF. He started working at the Athens Country Club Pro Shop and enjoyed many, many and we mean many rounds of chasing that white ball up and down, until a few years ago when he started to have the signs of Alzheimer's disease. He was diagnosed in 2015. His love of the game showed even more when he served as Hole Captain at the #8 Tee Box at the Jack Nicklaus Memorial Golf Tournament in Dublin, Ohio for 23 years. The third love of George's life was playing Santa Clause every Christmas. He truly was one of "Santa's Elves", from the pure joy it brought him and his family with the massive decorations and, of course, playing Santa! Christmas was always a very special time in the Weisenbach house. And finally, let's not forget his love for Ohio State Football, Cleveland Browns Football, and the many hunting trips for grouse and squirrel he took with his beloved Brittany Spaniel, Dutchess!
Left to cherish his memory is a daughter, Anita Weisenbach (Jeffrey Robinson) of Cadiz, Kentucky; a son, David (Rebecca) Weisenbach of Athens, Georgia; three grandsons, Kristopher of Athens, Ohio and William & Alexander of Athens, Georgia. Besides his parents and wife Marilyn, George was preceded in death by his brother, Byron "Barney" Weisenbach in 1959 and many aunts, uncles and dear friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Sept. 21, 2018 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Athens, with Father Mark Moore as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion and VFW Post 9893 Honor Guards at the cemetery. A reception will be held after the services at the Athens Country Club from 1-3pm. Family and friends are invited to attend all of the events. The Weisenbach Family wishes to sincerely thank every one of the "Angels on Earth" at The Arbors of Pomeroy for their dedication, patience, and incredible care assisting George in his final days. Please share a memory, a note of condolence or sign the online register book at www.jagersfuneralhome.com.
