Obituary

Ina Harlow Singer, a strong and independent woman who very much loved her second husband, Sidney Singer, died on September 5, 2018. She was 85 years old.

Ina was very young when her family fled through Europe to escape the Holocaust.  She was a toddler in Spain when an untreated ear infection led to her becoming permanently deaf in one ear.  Shortly after that, her family was able to immigrate to Israel, which was then still Palestine.  Despite her hearing problems, she was able to become a drill sergeant in the Israeli Army.  Her incredible facility for picking up different languages served her in good stead when she traveled around the world with her first husband, Ethan, for various work assignments.  She and Ethan had one child, Yara Bar Lev.

She returned to Arad, Israel, where she served as the executive assistant to the mayor.  Her vast network of friends and her knowledge of Arad made her invaluable in that role.  It was during that time when she was a widow that she met Sidney Singer who had recently emigrated from the United States to Israel.  They married in 1987.

Ina loved her child, her step children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Yara (ex-husband, Gary), Rosanne Singer (Steve), Gina Russ (Mike), Deborah Singer Howard (Bill), Sandra Singer (Otto), and Barbara Singer (Jeff).  She was a supportive grandmother, and is survived by Guy Hirsch, Gal Hirsch, Wren Kruse, Jesse Lincoln, Valerie Lincoln (Justin), Hannah Tills (Adam), Natalie Daniels (Nigel), Meg Howard (Rob), Nina Bierlein, Will Kruse (Michelle), Ben Howard (Laura), Zoe Lincoln (Kelly), Colin Kruse, Marie Mencher, and Angela Kruse.  She is also leaving behind six great grandchildren.

A private service will take place at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.  Please share a memory, a note of condolence or sign the online register book at www.jagersfuneralhome.com.
