Jessie Ann Essex, age 89 of Athens died Tuesday evening Nov. 6, 2018 at The Laurels of Athens. Born Apr. 13, 1929 in Canaanville, she was the daughter of the late Theodore & Marvella Jacoby Crawford.

A graduate of Rome Canaan High School and Ohio University, she was employed at the Student Personnel Services at Ohio University, College of Education.  She taught music lessons for many years and was the church organist at the First United Methodist Church in Athens during the late 1960's.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Athens Music Club and Athens Chapter 175 Order of Eastern Star.

Jessie is survived by three sons, Richard (Laura) Essex of North Royalton, Theodore Essex of Alexandria, VA and David Essex of The Plains; four grandchildren, Jonathan Essex of Cleveland, Willow Essex and Flynn Essex of Alexandria, VA and Ben Essex of North Royalton; ; a step great grandson, Luke Dowdy.  Also surviving are nephews, Doug & Rosalie McAfee and George Crawford; nieces, Kelly, Carolyn and Susan Crawford.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Essex in 2011; a sister and brother in law, Jean & Charles McAfee; a brother, George Crawford; and a daughter in law, Anne Essex.

Funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Rev.
