John Edward Lucas, age 83, of Guysville, died Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.  Born Sept. 30, 1939 in Stewart, he was the son of the late Harold Lucas and Iva Dalton Lucas.

A 1957 graduate of Rome-Canaan High School, he retired from DuPont Chemical after 32 years of service.  He was formerly employed in construction in Columbus and with the Gallaway Farm in Stewart.  He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren, hunting, fishing, handyman projects and gardening.

John is survived by his wife or 62 years, Peggy Tabler Lucas; their children, John "Brent" (Gina) Lucas of Trimble, Lisa (Andrew) Dantzer of Concord, NC and Michael (Erin) Lucas of Athens; four grandchildren, Zachary Lucas, A.J. Dantzer, Emma Lucas and Hannah Lucas; two great grandchildren, Jase and Ensley Lucas; three sisters, Shirley Ann (Frank) Kennedy of Guysville, Caroline Sue (Sanford) Kennedy of Guysville and Sherry Lucas of Land-O-Lakes, FL; two brothers, Bill Lucas of Guysville and Steve (Tamara) Lucas of Tuppers Plains.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Rev. James Lambert officiating.
