Obituary

Karen (Strandborg) Ireland was born in Toledo Ohio on August 16, 1939. She passed away on October 7, 2026. She was the daughter of Stanley and Margaret (Lee) Strandborg. Karen is survived by her sister Diane (Strandborg) Kent, her four children James Weaver (spouse Chrstina), Jeff Weaver (spouse Debbie), Susan Weaver, Deborah Weaver Richardson, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, former husbands Bob Weaver and Jim Ireland and her first child Michael Steven Weaver.

Karen was a graduate of Rogers High School in Toledo and was a part-time college student at the University of Toledo in accounting. Karen was a stay-at-home Mom until all her children were in school, then she worked for JC Pennys, The Toledo Public Library, and the US Postal Services. She moved to Florida to be closer to her parents and continued to work for the Postal Service until her retirement. After retiring Karen moved to Athens, Ohio to be near her daughters Deb and Susan and granddaughter Amanda.

Karen was a generous, caring, loving and supportive mother and kind to everyone. She was strong for her children, always there for them. Karen had a wonderful sense of humor, a beautiful smile and eyes that sparkled when she was happy or excited. Karen loved being outdoors, gardening, walking at Strouds Run and sitting on her porch.

Karen was especially fond of beaches, walking and searching for sand dollars and shells. Although she lived in several different places throughout her life, she said the best place was Arizona where she lived for a time as a child. Karen enjoyed traveling, especially trips with family that included their canine companions. Karen loved to read, do sudoku and other types of puzzles. She was always surrounded by pets both cats and dogs throughout her life, frequently adopting rescue animals.

Karen will be missed by her family and all who knew her.
