Kathryn B. Crabtree, 89, of Athens passed away, Friday, Jan. 12, 2024 at her home. Born Jan. 8, 1935 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Bert Vercoe and Frances Pearl Rodehaver Vercoe.
She was a 1952 graduate of Athens High School. She was first employed at Athens Flooring Company, which during that time she married Orville Crabtree, Jr. in 1955, retiring in 1957 to start her family. After her children were out of grade school, she worked part-time in the Office of Publications at Ohio University, then the Athens Medical Laboratory for several years. She then worked for Hocking Valley Bank, retiring after 27 years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, starting as a preschooler. She sang in the Inter-Denominational Youth Choir, and later the Church Choir. She also served in the Altar Guild. She had been a member of Beta Sigma Phi and Intermediate Circle of CCL. She is a member of the Daughter's of the American Revolution.
Kathryn is survived by three children, Debra J. Crabtree of Athens, Carol A. Sellers of Ravenswood, WV, and Jeff J. (Lisa) Crabtree of The Plains. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Orville Crabtree, Jr. in 2014; a sister, Jean Vercoe; and a brother, James R. Vercoe.
A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 17th at 1:00 p.m. at West Union St. Cemetery, Athens with Rev. Robbie Scott officiating.
