Katheryne "Katie" Virgene Hoisington, age 86, of Athens died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2021 at Grant Medical Center, Columbus.  Born Nov. 18, 1934 in Glouster, she was the daughter of the late Ralph C. Carpenter and Helen L. Williams Carpenter.

A 1952 graduate of Athens High School, she attended Ohio University as a music major.  She had been employed at the Hallmark Stores and as an Avon representative.  She was a longtime member and pianist at the Union United Methodist Church.  She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion.  Katie was an original Mall Walker at the Athens Mall.

Katie is survived by her children, Jim (Joan) Hoisington of Pensacola, FL, Dave (Liz) Hoisington of Athens, Jennie Mollohan of Ellenton, FL, and Jan (Larry) Creamer of Belpre; five grandchildren, Lisa (Corey) Fechner, Tyler Hoisington, Tim Linton, Jeff (Jessica) Creamer and Mike (Jamie) Mollohan; seven great grandchildren, Taylor & Harrison Fechner, Isabelle & Charlotte Mollohan, Jacob & Alex Linton, and Bradley Creamer; two sisters in law, Bertie Hoisington of Athens and Rose Hoisington of Athens.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, James H. "Jim' Hoisington; two sisters, Mary Frances Highberg and Betty R. Carpenter; and a son in law, David Mollohan.
