Kevin E. Butcher, age 62, of The Plains died early Friday morning, July 13, 2018 at his home. Born July 9, 1956 in Columbus, he was the son of the late Floyd Butcher and Phyllis Holbert Butcher Nichols, and his adoptive mother, Nanna Butcher.
He attended Federal Hocking High School, later receiving his G.E.D. He served for 21 years in the United States Navy, retiring in 2006. He was a veteran of the Persian Gulf War and Desert Storm. He was formerly employed at O'Bleness Memorial Hospital and Monongahela Power Station.
Kevin is survived by his wife of 33 years, Vanessa Driggs Butcher; a daughter, Natalie Butcher of San Diego, Calif.; a granddaughter, Alex Butcher; his step mother, Lorrina Butcher of Columbus; three sisters, Stephanie Nichols of Chesterhill, Pamela Parker of Columbus and Kawana Butcher of Columbus; a brother, Greg Butcher of Zanesville.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Norris and Teresa Butcher; and two brothers, Clarence Butcher and James Nichols. Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday 1:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Pastor Stan West officiating. Burial will be in Haga Mission Cemetery, Stewart. Friends may call Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Military Rites will be conducted by K.T. Crossen Post 21 American Legion and VFW Post 9893 Honor Guards at the cemetery.
