Marguerite Starkey, age 94, of Athens, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 at Kimes Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Athens.

Born April 12, 1924 in Logan Co., West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Edith Bretz Deeter.  She has one sister, Catherine Boggs of Belpre, and two sisters who predeceased her, Ruth Apple and  Virginia Cole; and one brother, the late Arthur Deeter, Jr.

She was a 1942 graduate of Rome High School.  Having practiced her culinary skills on her family for years, she appropriately applied for a position at Ohio University in the Food Service area.  After 23 years of service, she retired as a Food Service Supervisor II in 1985.  She attended Christ Community Wesleyan Church, Albany.

Married to the late Earl V. Starkey for 51 years, she is survived by four daughters, Edna (Terry) Frost of Athens, Joyce (Charlie) Kincade of Athens, Connie (John Zellner) Starkey of Cumming, Ga. and Donna Dunfee of Athens.  She was preceded in death by two daughters, Renee Apple and Sarah Coffman.  She is also survived by ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be conducted Sunday, Dec. 16 ^th , at 2:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Pastor David Holdren officiating.  Burial will be in Athens Memory Gardens.  Friends may call Sunday 1:00 p.m.  Please share a memory, a note of condolence or sign the online register book at www.jagersfuneralhome.com .  The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Kimes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful and loving care Marguerite received.
