Mary Jane
Milazzo
Feb 8, 1931 — Oct 29, 2024
Athens
Mary Jane (Cutuli) Milazzo, 93, of Athens, died Tuesday evening, October 29, 2024. Born on February 8, 1931, in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Marando) Cutuli.
She attended elementary school in Brooklyn and was homeschooled for her secondary education by the late Ida Sternbach. She worked for over forty years in the health care field, beginning her career as a medical secretary at Gouverneur Hospital in Manhattan and the Brooklyn Veteran's Medical Center. Later, she accepted a position as secretary and office manager for the distinguished cardiologist Dr. Joseph Florio, founder of Florio Cardiopulmonary Associates in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
While at St. Finbar Church in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, she taught Sunday School for many years and enjoyed socializing with the parish's young adults group, where she met her late husband. After marrying, they became parishioners at St. Frances Cabrini in Brooklyn. In 2007, they became members of Christ the King Parish in Athens and fixtures at the coffee and donut hour after mass.
As an active member of the Parent-Teacher Association at P.S. 229 in Dyker Heights, she served an unprecedented three-year term as president from 1978-81. An avid reader, she could often be found with her nose in a book, newspaper, or magazine, and prided herself on completing countless daily New York Times crossword puzzles. She traveled widely and always encouraged others to as well, with the request that they return with interesting stories to share.
Over the years, she spent much of her time caring for family and friends. She was a devoted daughter and wife. More than anything, she loved being a mom to Paul and "daughter" Laura when they married in 2003. Her role as "Nana" to Sam and Leo (the "fellas") brought her such joy. She relished every conversation with them and others. The daily doses of love that she extended to all will be missed dearly.
Mary Jane is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Paul Charles and Laura Zoe (Barter) Milazzo of Vincent, Ohio; her grandsons Samuel Joseph and Leo Francis; a sister-in-law, Louise (Lirosi) Cutuli; a niece, Karin Patrick-Kube and children Alexis, Nicholas, and Matthew; a nephew, Stephen Cutuli and his wife April; a niece, Audra Cutuli; a nephew, Peter Giacone, his wife Jacqueline (Thoresz), and daughter, Caroline Grace; a cousin, Rita (DeSantis) Krawczyk, and her children Beth (and husband, Tom Kappan}, Brian (and wife, Colleen, and children, Claire and Quinn), and Katie (and husband, Dan Gigante}; a cousin, Louise Marando; and cousins Laura Merola and Michael Merola.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Salvatore Charles Milazzo, and her brother, Guy Cutuli.
