Mary Kathryn Scott, 98, of The Plains, passed away Aug. 1, 2018 at The Lindley Inn, The Plains. Mary was born Apr. 27, 1920 in New Marshfield, OH. She was one of six children of Roy & Anna Morris Gilham, being the only daughter with five brothers: John, Jim, Paul, Neil and Harry Gilham.
Mary graduated from New Marshfield High School in 1938, and married her love, Elmo Scott, in 1941. She was the bookkeeper for their business, Scott's Plumbing Company for many years and later worked part time as a teller at Bank One of Athens.
She was a lifelong member of The Plains United Methodist Church, serving on numerous committees and because of her love and talent with flowers, she arranged the altar flowers on Sundays for many years. She was a member of The Plains Garden Club and an original member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Gilham-Frank VFW Post 8804 of New Marshfield. She was an avid Ohio State Buckeye football and basketball fan as well as a Cincinnati Reds fan.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Turman and husband William Turman of Athens, OH; a grandson, Jason Linscott and wife Sarah Linscott of Powell, OH; a granddaughter, Jocelyn Linscott of Hewitt, New Jersey; two great grandchildren, Grace and Jack Linscott of Powell, OH; and three nieces & one nephew. Mary also had many beautiful, loving friends who would visit frequently and enjoyed many euchre card games. Besides her parents and five brothers, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Elmo Scott in 2003.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday 1:00 p.m. at The Plains United Methodist Church with Rev. Daniel Fuchs and Rev. David Roach officiating. Burial will be in New Marshfield Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday 12:00 noon until time of service at the church. Arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.
