Matthew David Sturbois, born on September 6, 1964, in Athens Ohio, passed away on February 26, 2024, in Knoxville, Tennessee. He is survived by his father, Jules David Sturbois (Carol Blue); his mother, Sharon Williams Parsons, his stepfather, Tom Parsons; his children, Stephanie Sturbois and Kyle Sturbois; his former wife, Kristina Castor; his brother Adam Sturbois (Lori Reagan); his niece and nephew, Amelia Sturbois and Noah Sturbois; and a stepsister, Emily Parsons McLain. Also surviving Matthew is his beloved aunt, JoEllen Sherow, with whom be shared a passion for riding horses, and in addition he had many other aunts, uncles, and cousins with whom he enjoyed holidays, trips, and happy times. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jules Frank and Grace M. Lewis Sturbois, and Harry and Eudora Williams.
Matthew particularly loved his daughter and son. Personally, he embraced life and met adventure head-on and was intelligent and charming with a quick wit and a great sense of humor. He had many hobbies, especially coin-collecting, crossword puzzles, and reading, and was a talented writer. Matthew loved nature and animals, particularly dogs and horses, and spent much time on the farm with both. He was a hard worker with a creative mindset. He was physically active. As an Athens High School athlete, he participated in soccer and excelled at wrestling.
He will be deeply missed by all in his family. A memorial service will be held on October 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Clark's Chapel United Methodist Church, 7650 Clark's Chapel Road, Athens, Ohio 45701. All friends and acquaintances who wish to honor him and share memories are invited. A brief social will follow at approximately 12:00 p.m. in the basement of the church.. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Matthew's name to your local animal shelter. Local arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.
