Meade Kayser, age 97 of Guysville died early Thursday evening, June 8, 2023 at The Laurels of Athens.  Born July 31, 1925 in Lodi Township, Athens County, he was the son of the late Hugh Kayser and Pearl Swisher Kayser.

He attended Carthage-Troy High School and has been involved in farming and agriculture his entire life.  He was also a heavy equipment operator, a mechanic, a custom farmer and maintained oil and gas wells.  He served on the Athens County Soil and Water Conservation Board.

He was a 97-year member of the South Canaan Baptist Church.  He and his late wife Rosemary, hosted family dinners, and for 50 years hosted Halloween and New Year's Eve parties.

Meade is survived by his daughter and son in law, Ruth Anne & Greg Gilders of Guysville; two grandchildren, Nathan (Yvonne) Gilders of Guysville and Cate (Mike) Young of Cary, NC; two great grandchildren, Dodge Gilders and Eva Young; a sister, Mary Jo Griffin of Coolville; two sisters in law, Dee Kayser of Lima and Connie (Rodney) Quivey of Burlingham; and fifteen nieces and one nephew.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Rosemary Slusher Kayser, who died Feb. 28, 2023; two brothers, John Kayser, who was killed in action in Normandy during World War II and Bill Kayser; a brother in law, Myrle Griffin; a sister in law, Meta (Doc) Lawson; and two brothers in law and wives, Jenkins "Jenks" (Edna) Slusher and Leslie (Wadedene) Slusher.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday, June 16th, at 3:00 p.m. at South Canaan Baptist Church, 17506 S. Canaan Rd., Athens with Rev.
