Melvin Clarence Oxley, age 78, of Athens died late Thursday evening, December 11, 2025 at The Laurels of Athens.  Born September 10, 1947 in Athens, he was the son of the late Aubrey Clarence Oxley and Ellen McCune Oxley.

A1965 graduate of Athens High School, he retired from the City of Athens Street Department after several years of service.  He attended the former Athens Church of God. He enjoyed auctions, yard sales, country music and sports.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Johnson Oxley; a sister, Carolyn (Dennis) Riley of Athens; a niece, Amy (David) Carder of Athens; a great niece, Kayla Carder : a great nephew, Justin (Anna) Carder; two great-great nieces, Kyleigh and Aubree Malone; and a sister in law, Judy Davis of Parkersburg, WV.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters-in-law; and four brothers-in-law.

Friends may call Monday, December 15, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.  A graveside service will follow at West Union St. Cemetery with Rev.
