Moon McCune

Hughie “Moon” Chester McCune, Jr., 88, of Millfield, died early Tuesday morning, July 21, 2026 at OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital. Born November 11, 1937 in Millfield, he was the son of the late Hughie Chester McCune, Sr. and Goldie Wilson McCune.

He attended Chauncey Dover High School. He was employed at Fred Landis’s Service Station on Columbus Road and Landot Auto Parts on State Route 550 both of Athens. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a lifelong Millfield resident.

Moon is survived by three sisters, Dorothy Pinkerton of New Marshfield, Lucille (Karroll) Kimes of Long Bottom and Donna (Jerry) Storer of Tuppers Plains; several nieces and nephews; his late wife Sheryl’s children and grandchildren; and a close friend, Bill (Jill) Russell of Millfield.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Sheryl Burchfield McCune, who passed away January 14, 2022; a sister, Goldie Russell; three brothers, Bob McCune, John McCune and Pete McCune.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Rev. Phil Foster officiating. Burial will be in Hilltop Cemetery, Millfield.
