Ron D. Windland, age 76, of Albany, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family on Christmas evening, Dec. 25, 2023. His wish was to still be here on Christmas day surrounded by all of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his loving wife. And also his wish was to see Jesus, and he got both. Born Oct. 3, 1947 in Athens, he was the son of the late Dale C. Windland and Beulah Foreman Windland.
He attended Athens schools and had been previously employed at Conrail Railroad, Meigs Mine 1 & 31, Maintenance Supervisor for Beerman Reality at the University Mall, and Sherry's Floral Designs (Co-Owner). He attended Living Water Worship Center and New Life Assembly of God. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and he enjoyed his membership in the S.E. Ohio Bass Club and was a participant in the Ohio State B.A.S.S. Tournament. He would be seen driving around the area in his bright yellow Corvette, with the license plate of TWEEDY 08.
Ron was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the 1st Calvary Division. He was a member of the VFW Post 9893 of Albany.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sherry Lynn Hoodlet-Mains Windland; three daughters, Crystal Lynn Kennedy (Bret Christian) of Albany, Ronni Rachele (Lavon) Sayre of Logan and Heather Windland-Poirier of Cutler; two sons, Jeremy James Windland of Albany and his significant other, Tracy Powell Bolin, and John Robert Windland of Cape Cod, MA; five grandchildren, Cortney Nicole (Terry) Simerly, Rachele Lynn (Travis) Sayre-Anderson, Levi Austin Leroy (Kacie) Sayre, Elijah James Kennedy and Jesse James Windland; nine great grandchildren, Zaidee, Eli, Oakley, Zoey, Addison, T.T, Ryleigh, Zhuri and Hazelee; a sister, Janet Marie (David) Lonas of Frostproof, Fla; he had several aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. And three special friends, Steve Cremeans, John Evener and Bob Rioch.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Karen Glasser; a half-sister, Lisa Buck; and two special friends, Darrell Van Nest and David McCarty.
Friends may call Thursday, Dec. 28th from 4-7 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home at 7 p.m., by the VFW Post 9893 Honor Guard. Rev.
