Scott Douglas Johnson, age 51 of Athens, died suddenly Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024 at his home. Born Jan. 28, 1973 in Athens, he was the son of Alice L. Arnold Johnson of Athens and the late H. Gayle Johnson, Jr.
A 1991 graduate of Alexander High School, he received his bachelor's degree in sports administration from the University of Mt. Union. He was a scholarship soccer player at Mt. Union and receiving the "Golden Boot" award for most points scored during his Junior year. He was employed for several years at Sherwin-Williams in Athens and also operated Johnson's Painting Company.
Scott enjoyed deer hunting, World of Outlaws sprint car racing, and off roading with the Athens County Crawlers. He was a member of the Hocking Valley Sportsman and AMVETS of Athens.
Scott is survived by his mother, Alice L. Arnold Johnson of Athens; a brother, Bryan (Carrie) Johnson of Athens; two nieces that he loved dearly, Harper and Sawyer Johnson; an uncle, Ron (Kathleen) Dawson; several cousins including, Neil (Patty) Dawson, Nick (Karen Culp) Linscott, Ted (Lynn) Linscott and Mark (Deadra Weiss) Linscott; and a cousin in law, Richard Wagner and his daughter Julia.
He is preceded in death by his father, H. Gayle Johnson, Jr.; an aunt, Jeannie Dawson; and a cousin, Kerri Wagner.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 14th at 1:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens with Tom O'Brien officiating. Burial will be in Alexander Cemetery, Hebbardsville. Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Flowers will be appreciated, or memorial donations may be made to the Alexander Future Foundation, PO Box 204, Albany, OH 45710.
