Shirley
Dunlap
Apr 10, 1934 — Dec 11, 2023
Athens
Shirley Mae Dunlap passed away, Monday Dec. 11, 2023 at the age of 89. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, aunt, in-law, but the titles that gave her the utmost pride were grandma and great-grandma.
Shirley was born to the late Louis and Agnes Gmeindl on April 10, 1934. She was born in Dilles Bottom, Ohio. She married her soul mate Thomas Dunlap September 10, 1955 whom she has now joined in heaven. Shirley retired from Athens City Municipal Court in May 1994.
Shirley is survived by a son Thomas {Robin) Dunlap Jr.; a daughter Debbie (Rick) Kroner; three grandchildren, Bruce (Kelsey) Dunlap, T.J. (Alysia) Brooks, and Katie (Jay) Saner; three great- grandchildren, Callan Brooks, Cassie Saner, and Harper Saner; a brother-in-law Bruce (Joyce) Dunlap; a sister-in-law Lorenza Gmeindl; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Lastly, she is survived by her loving cat Missy, who will remain in the care of her family.
Besides her parents and mother and father in-law, she is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Tom in March of 2022; a granddaughter, Cassie Brooks; a sister-in-law Doris Dunlap; her sister Rosanne Ward; and her brother Louis Gmeindl, Jr.
Shirley lived a very fulfilled happy life. Her family came first but she was always willing to help someone in need. Whether it was as small as smile, picking up a dropped item, visiting someone in need of a visit, or baking/cooking and passing on those goodies on to others, just to name a few things, Shirley was always willing to help. Her kindness and compassion for others impacted many lives.
