Shirley Jean Powell, age 71 of McArthur, formerly of Shade, died Saturday morning, July 1, 2023 at Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe. Born June 17, 1952 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Virgil L. Pratt and June L. Six Pratt.

A 1970 graduate of Alexander High School, she was a child care provider in several family's homes in the area. She enjoyed crocheting baby blankets and baby clothing for many of her relatives. The Powell home in Shade was a gathering place for many children over the years. She also babysat all of her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was a member of the Shade United Methodist Church.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 55 years, Daniel "Danny" L. Powell; two daughters, Donna Powell of McArthur and Deanna (Ned) Simpson of Albany; four grandchildren, Craig Wilson, Austin Simpson, Matthew Wilson and Bow Simpson; two sisters, Sharia Powell of McArthur and Sue (Mike) Harden of Logan; a brother, Sherman (Robin) Pratt of McArthur; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by a daughter, Shelia Mae Powell; a sister, Betty Jean Pratt; and a brother, Shelly Sprague Pratt.  A memorial service will take place at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements are with Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens.  Please share a memory, a note of condolence or sign the online register at www.jagersfuneralhome.com.
