Stephen Charles Dougherty, age 60, of The Plains, formerly of Wellston, died Sunday evening, November 30, 2025 at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains.  Born August 25, 1965 in Norwalk, Ohio he is the son of Charles Bernard Dougherty of Garnet Valley, PA and the late Diana Park Dougherty.

He attended the University of Delaware where he studied Graphic Arts.  He spent the majority of his career in the banking industry, primarily HSBC. His favorite assignment, as a corporate trainer, was setting up training programs in India.  He completed his career with General Mills in Wellston.

Stephen loved his family first and foremost and had four wonderful children who were the joy of his life.  He was so proud of the people they were becoming. And his family, we all loved his sense of humor, unlimited jokes, and never ending optimism.

Stephen was a man of many interests.

He loved travel and, in addition to traveling throughout this country, spent time in Canada, England, France, Italy, India, Mexico, St. Lucia and Puerto Rico.

He renovated several homes from roof to foundation - an early flipper. He loved his dogs and other animals. Raised chickens. Boated and fished.

Stephen is survived by his four children, Ethan Dougherty, Hailey Dougherty, Riley Dougherty, Ellie Dougherty, and their mother Chasity Brant Dougherty; his father, Charles Dougherty; three siblings, Jim Dougherty, Tom Dougherty and Martha Durham; as well as nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, 24 Morris Ave., Athens, OH  45701.  A memorial service will follow at the funeral home.  Family and friends are encouraged to share stories about Stephen at the memorial service.
