Obituary

Tom was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a faithful servant of God who had a special place in his heart for people. Tom went home to be with the Lord on October 31, 2026.

The world was a better place because Tom was in it. His faith, generous spirit, and genuine love for people left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

If there is such a thing as soulmates, Tom and Candy were just that, sharing a love that was truly special. He was her best friend, her partner in life and ministry, and the love of her life. They shared a bond that was unlike any other, and she will forever be grateful for the life and love they shared.

Tom and Candy faithfully served together for more than 20 years in the Emmaus and Chrysalis ministries, as well as 18 years in the Kairos Prison Ministry. Through these ministries, they touched countless lives. Tom never met a stranger and saw every encounter as an opportunity to make a difference in someone's life. He had a gift for making people feel welcomed, valued, and loved, regardless of their circumstances.

Tom loved the outdoors and found great joy in hunting, fishing, and appreciating the beauty of God's creation. He especially enjoyed several big-game hunting trips, fishing trips, and motorcycle adventures, making wonderful memories and sharing those experiences with family and friends.

A retired tree farmer, Tom also loved working on the farm. Whether tending to the land, working outdoors, or spending time gardening, he found satisfaction in working with his hands and watching things grow.

And then there was Tom's love of hot and spicy food! He never passed up an opportunity to add a little heat to his meal. He even had his own special name for his hot pepper mixture, calling it "sprinkles." If you enjoyed a little spice, Tom was always happy to share his sprinkles with you.

Above all, Tom treasured his family, and his definition of family extended well beyond bloodlines. He leaves behind his loving wife of almost 37 years, Candy; his daughter, April Dishong; his beloved grandsons, Mason Dishong and Gunner Dishong; his two sisters, Kim Dishong and Beth Nelson (David); several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; and many dear friends who were like family. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas (TJ) R. Dishong III, and his parents, Thomas R. Dishong, Sr. and Norma J. Dishong.
