Dr. Thomas Littler, age 81 of Athens, died Saturday July 21, 2018 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus. Born March 13, 1937 in Athens he was the son of the late Thomas & Hazel Walker Littler.  He was raised by his sister and her husband, Betty & Paul Powers.

He was a graduate of Athens High School (Class of 1955), Ohio University, and the Ohio State University School of Optometry.  Following his education, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Thule, Greenland and Langley, Virginia as an Optometrist.

Dr. Littler was an Optometrist in Athens for 55 years.  He began his optometric practice in 1963.  His first office was located on Court St., then moving to W. Union St. and currently on Columbus Road.  He was recognized by Governor John Kasich for over fifty years of practice as an Optometrist in Ohio.  Dr. Littler was a member of the American Board of Optometry, a Fellow of American Academy of Optometry, Ohio Optometry Association, Ohio State University President's Club and Faculty Club, Green & White Club, Athens Country Club, former member of Athens Lions Club and Athens Noon Rotary Club.  He was an avid golfer, as well as an avid supporter of Ohio University Bobcats and Ohio State University Buckeyes sports programs.

Tom is survived by his son, Scott Littler and a grandson, Owen Littler, both of Gainesville, Fla.; a sister and her husband, Lou Schar Herald and Jim Herald of Akron.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Julie Stratton Littler, who died in Sept. 18, 2016; his sister, Betty Powers; and his brothers in law, Paul Powers and Muril Schar.

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, July 28 ^th at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 2 S. College St., Athens with Rev. Robert McDowell officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the O.U.
